Description :
A rare George Walton oak Abingwood Chair 1897 designed by Walton in conjunction with Charles Rennie Mackintosh for the billiard room at Miss Cranston's Buchanan Street tearooms in Glasgow. This remarkable chair is one of an important group of chairs far ahead of their time in style and execution designed in their first major commission by Walton, who was responsible for the furniture, and Mackintosh the room and furnishings.
The huge success of his design meant commercial copies being sold both by Liberty's and by William Birch in High Wycombe.
The rushing on the chair is the original.
Provenance - sold by Miss Cranston in 1919 to the Robertson family who owned a renowned jewellers in Sauchiehall Street and Hill House in Helensburgh designed by Mackintosh . When Hill House was sold to the Royal Scottish Institute Of Architects the chairs came to Dorset in 1973 where they remained until purchased by us last year.

A fabulous Marsh and Jones of Leeds 5 piece Ash Bedroom suite c 1875 to a design by Charles Bevan in the Reformed Gothic style inlaid with boxwood walnut and ebony.
Comprising a combination wardrobe with castellated cornice with hanging space to the right hand side and trays and drawers to the middle and left; a mirror back dressing table; a marble top washstand ; a bedside cupboard and a towel rail.
This suite is of the highest quality and was based on the original designed for Titus Salt for his house at Milner Field by Charles Bevan in 1872 and now at Temple Newsam Museum near Leeds. The design by Bevan proved so popular that Marsh and Jones one of the best Northern Cabinet makers made further suites such as this for commercial sale.
